Nairobi National Park — forest first

In at Main Gate before the light hardens. Riverine forest along the Athi for robin-chats, turacos and the early raptor movement, then out onto the plains as the thermals build.

  2. 09:30

The plains and the Athi dams

Slow circuit east for Secretarybird, White-bellied Bustard and the whistling-thorn belt where Grey-crested Helmetshrike holds on. Dams for Saddle-billed Stork and waterbirds.

  3. 13:00

    Kabete Dam

Out of the park and onto the dam for the duck assemblage — Hottentot Teal, Southern Pochard, Black Crake in the reed edge. A scope session to finish.
